In this guerilla-style ad campaign for Tobacco Free Florida, the "kidnapping" of a tobacco executive to sparks controversy and discussion.
  • “Put ‘Em Out” was a guerilla-style ad campaign done for Tobacco Free Florida in an effort to spark controversy over the tobacco industry’s methods of manipulative advertising. We targeted high school students with a staged “kidnapping” of big tobacco executives using ambient and grassroots methods to send traffic to the main website. Visitors to the website were encouraged to take their own stand against tobacco by signing an anti-smoking pledge and joining petitions against big tobacco’s harmful marketing strategies.

  • ^ Ransom-style "missing" posters were put and defaced in order to drive traffic to watch the kidnapping video.

^ Anonymous text messages coordinated through high school S.W.A.T (Students Working Against Tobacco) groups were sent to students to raise curiosity and speculation.
  • ^ Facebook Application let users interact with a "live" ransom-style video session. Users were encouraged to voice opinions on tobacco and spark discussion. An accompanying microsite acted as the hub for all activities and online links.

^ Cryptic envelopes containing a "kidnapped" tobacco executive's polaroid shot drove audience to the website.
